Adani Green Energy Launches 480 MW Renewable Project at Khavda
Adani Green Energy Limited, through its various wholly owned step-down subsidiaries, has successfully commissioned a total of 480.1 MW of power capacity at its expansive Khavda renewable energy site in Gujarat.
With the commissioning of these plants, the Adani Group's total operational renewable energy generation capacity has now reached 14,217.9 MW, as stated in a filing to the stock exchanges late on Saturday. The new plant has started generating power from March 30, 2025.
Adani Green Energy Limited is developing a 30 GW renewable energy plant on barren land in Khavda, Kutch, Gujarat, spanning 538 square km. Once completed, this project will become the largest power plant in the world. Adani Green Energy Limited is set to invest approximately Rs 1.5 lakh crore in the project.
India fulfils a significant portion of its energy requirements through coal-fired power plants, and renewable energy is increasingly recognised as a key solution to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources.
At COP26 in 2021, India made an ambitious commitment through the "Panchamrit" pledge, which consists of five key targets. These include achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based electricity capacity, sourcing 50% of its total energy needs from renewables, and reducing emissions by 1 billion tonnes by 2030. India also aims to reduce the emissions intensity of its GDP by 45%. Ultimately, the country has committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070.
