Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Hitachi Energy India have joined hands to develop India’s largest private sector power transmission project. The approximately Rs 12,000 crore contract, awarded by Adani Energy Solutions, involves the design and delivery of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) terminals. These terminals will facilitate the transmission of renewable energy from Rajasthan’s Bhadla to the industrial and transportation hub of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh.
As per a statement from Hitachi, the 6,000 MW, 950-kilometre HVDC link has the capacity to power around 60 million households in India. BHEL noted that this marks its fourth project of this kind. The project scope includes converter transformers, AC/DC control and protection systems, thyristor valves, 765 kV/400 kV grid connections, and auxiliary systems, which will be supplied by Hitachi Energy India in collaboration with its consortium partner, BHEL.
This contract has been awarded by Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions. The project forms a key part of the transmission infrastructure designed to transfer power from the potential renewable energy zone in the Bhadla area of Rajasthan, under Phase-III Part I. AESL secured the project through tariff-based competitive bidding.
