India Sanctions 94 Bio-CNG/CBG Projects with Rs. 90.89 Crore Funding; Uttar Pradesh Leads with 31 Active Plants

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has recently sanctioned a total of 94 Bio-CNG/Compressed BioGas (CBG) projects across various states in India, with 17 of these projects being located in Uttar Pradesh alone. These initiatives have been allocated a significant amount of Central Financial Assistance (CFA) amounting to Rs. 90.89 Crores to support their development and implementation.

Seven of these projects in Uttar Pradesh are now successfully operational, having passed inspection, and are backed by the CFA. Moreover, Uttar Pradesh stands at the forefront nationally with 31 installed Bio-CNG/CBG projects, collectively generating a substantial capacity of 241.82 tonnes per day — the highest in the country.

These projects are in line with India’s commitment to sustainable energy, supporting initiatives such as the National Bioenergy Programme and SATAT (Sustainable Alternative towards Affordable Transportation). They focus on promoting clean fuel production from biomass and waste, which not only reduces the country’s dependency on fossil fuels but also contributes to rural economic development, creating jobs and providing a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.
