NFR Commissions Solar Power Plant in Guwahati to Boost Green Energy Initiatives

In a major step toward sustainable development and clean energy adoption, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has successfully commissioned a 306.9 kilowatt-peak (kWp) solar power plant at the Uzan Bazar Water Treatment Plant in Guwahati. Inaugurated on April 10, 2025, the new solar facility represents a significant milestone in NFR’s on-going efforts to incorporate renewable energy into its operational infrastructure.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), and attended by senior railway officials, including Samir Lohani, Divisional Railway Manager of the Lumding Division, and Sandeep Kumar, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer of NFR.

“This solar power project reflects our dedication to building a greener, more sustainable future,” said Shrivastava. “It goes beyond energy savings — it’s about fostering an environmentally responsible railway network that supports our nation’s carbon reduction goals.”

The cutting-edge solar power plant, developed through the Environment and Housekeeping Management (EnHM) fund, is designed to produce approximately 928 units of electricity each day. This is projected to result in annual energy cost savings of nearly ?30 lakh, delivering significant economic and environmental benefits.

The installation comprises 558 mono-crystalline solar modules, each with a capacity of 550 Wp, supported by eight Luminous inverters delivering a total capacity of 315 KVA. The project was completed at a total cost of ?2.48 crore and was officially commissioned on March 7, 2025.
