The Uttar Pradesh government has set an ambitious goal of installing 800,000 solar rooftop systems across the state by March 2027 under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, according to an official statement released on Sunday. The target for the current financial year is to install 2.65 lakh units, with a monthly goal of 22,000 installations – equating to approximately 300 installations per district, as stated.
To ensure a systematic implementation, targets have been established at the district, DISCOM, Municipal Corporation, and municipality levels. The scheme is being closely monitored through integration with the Chief Minister's dashboard, allowing for real-time tracking of its progress.
The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) are leading the implementation of this initiative, with the goal of bringing solar energy to every household, according to the statement. Out of the 10.73 lakh applications received on the portal as of March 2025, the vendor listing is currently in progress, and the installation process is moving forward at a rapid pace.
To date, more than 1,00,000 rooftop solar systems have been installed across the state. Currently, around 11,000 installations are completed each month, with an average of over 500 systems being installed daily. As of April 2025, more than 2,500 vendors have been empanelled, with approximately 1,800 having completed formal training to support the rollout. To strengthen their financial capacity, vendors are being offered access to loans and credit guarantee programmes through partnering banks.
The training programmes are being organised in collaboration with the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development, the Ministry of Skill Development, the Government of India, and UPNEDA. The state government has prioritised this scheme, launched in February 2024, as a significant step towards advancing green energy throughout Uttar Pradesh.
