With the aim of transforming Uttar Pradesh, particularly regions like Bundelkhand, Vindhya, and surrounding areas, into a leading hub for solar energy, the government is implementing policy-driven initiatives to fast-track this green revolution.
The state has recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Smart Energy Council of Australia and the Hinduja Group in a landmark agreement. This partnership is part of the government’s ambitious goal to generate 500 GW of solar energy by 2030, officials stated on Tuesday.
As solar capacity grows, local employment opportunities will expand across various sectors, including panel manufacturing, installation, maintenance, grid integration, and transmission. To support this growth, the government has introduced the Solar Mitra Yojana, aimed at developing a skilled workforce for the solar industry.
When Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assumed office in 2017, Uttar Pradesh’s solar energy production stood at just 288 MW. Today, that capacity has surged tenfold, with growth continuing at a rapid pace. As part of the Solar Energy Policy 2022, the state has set an ambitious near-term target of 2,200 MW.
To bring this vision to life, solar parks will be developed across all municipal corporations, while solar grids will be installed along expressways and railway tracks. Streetlights will also be powered by solar energy. Additionally, transmission infrastructure will be strengthened, with a particular focus on the Bundelkhand region.
