Adani Power has signed an agreement with Bhutan’s state-owned Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) to develop a 570 MW hydropower project in the Himalayan nation.
The collaboration is expected to boost cross-border energy cooperation between India and Bhutan, while also adding to the region’s renewable energy capacity. Hydropower has long been a key pillar of Bhutan’s economy, and the new project is likely to further strengthen the country’s role as a green energy exporter.
Under the agreement, the two companies will jointly work on project planning, development, and operation. The hydropower facility will not only enhance energy availability in Bhutan but also contribute to India’s growing clean energy requirements through power trade arrangements.
Officials highlighted that the initiative aligns with both nations’ commitment to sustainable energy transition and regional energy security. Once completed, the project will generate reliable, renewable electricity and support carbon reduction goals.
