Gurugram-based energy storage company ChemVolt Global, led by Kuldeep Gupta, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish a 5 GWh lithium-ion cell manufacturing gigafactory in the state. The project marks a significant step in strengthening India’s domestic energy storage manufacturing ecosystem.
The proposed gigafactory will involve an investment of approximately ₹2,500 crore and is expected to generate around 1,500 direct jobs, along with more than 4,000 indirect employment opportunities across the supplier, manufacturing and logistics ecosystem.
The facility will be developed in phases, with the first phase comprising a 1 GWh lithium-ion cell manufacturing line targeted for commissioning by Q3 2027. The second phase will add an additional 4 GWh of capacity, taking the total manufacturing capacity to 5 GWh, with completion expected by Q2 2029.
The plant will manufacture 314 Ah and 750 Ah prismatic lithium-ion cells, catering to a wide range of applications including grid-scale energy storage, heavy electric vehicles, and commercial and industrial (C&I) energy solutions. The products are intended to serve both domestic and international markets, supporting India’s growing energy storage demand and export ambitions.
In addition to the MoU, ChemVolt Global also announced the expansion of its Energy Storage System (ESS) portfolio. The company introduced the Starlight Series, which includes a 5.016 MWh DC block housed in a 20-foot container with liquid cooling, and a 9.16 MWh AC block in a 40-foot container offering four-hour duration with liquid cooling. For commercial and industrial applications, ChemVolt launched the Titan Series, featuring a 1.6 MWh AC block and a 2.5 MWh DC block, both housed in 12-foot cabinets.
The announcement underscores ChemVolt Global’s commitment to advancing energy storage solutions in India while aligning with Andhra Pradesh’s vision of becoming a hub for advanced clean energy manufacturing.
