The Delhi government has flagged off around 500 electric buses as part of its push to promote sustainable public transport and reduce urban emissions. The launch also included the introduction of a new Delhi–Panipat bus service, marking one year of the current administration in the national capital.
The flag-off ceremony was led by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and attended by Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma, and other senior leaders.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the addition of electric buses reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable transport and improved civic infrastructure. She noted that the initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen public services and respond to citizens’ expectations for better governance.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the deployment of the new electric buses would enhance public transport capacity while contributing to cleaner air in the city. He also highlighted the launch of the Delhi–Panipat service as a step towards improving regional connectivity.
Officials stated that the expansion of the electric bus fleet is part of a broader strategy to promote green mobility, reduce vehicular emissions, and improve the efficiency of public transport. The initiative is expected to benefit daily commuters while supporting the city’s environmental goals.
The induction of the new electric buses forms a key component of Delhi’s efforts to address air pollution and transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable transport system.
