Indofast Energy has announced a strategic partnership with Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) to establish a network of 23 battery-swapping stations along the Aqua Line 3 corridor of the Mumbai Metro.

Under the agreement, the swapping stations will be installed at eight key metro locations including Aarey JVLR, SEEPZ, MIDC, Santacruz Metro, Bandra Kurla Complex, Dharavi, Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk. These facilities are intended to support electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and small commercial vehicles, facilitating easy and convenient battery exchanges for commuters and last-mile EV users along the major north–south transit route.

The initiative aims to strengthen integrated urban mobility by linking mass rapid transit with efficient EV infrastructure, thereby encouraging broader electric vehicle adoption within Mumbai’s transport ecosystem. As part of the rollout, each station will feature Indofast Energy’s automated swapping technology capable of serving multiple vehicle types on a single battery platform.

Indofast Energy currently operates 19 battery-swapping stations across Mumbai, including its 1,000th station at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus.

Commenting on the collaboration, Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy, described the partnership as a “paradigm shift in urban mobility planning,” while R Ramana, Director (Planning) at MMRCL, said the deployment will help more people switch to electric vehicles for short-distance travel.
