JSW Energy has successfully commissioned the second 80 MW unit of its 240 MW Kutehr hydroelectric plant, marking another milestone in the company’s renewable energy expansion. Located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, the project is designed to harness the region’s abundant hydropower potential while supporting India’s clean energy transition goals.
With the commissioning of this second unit, the project has now brought 160 MW of capacity online, significantly boosting power generation from renewable sources. The plant is expected to operate with high efficiency by utilizing the natural water flow of the Ravi River, ensuring reliable power supply while minimizing environmental impact.
The Kutehr hydro project is part of JSW Energy’s broader strategy to increase its share of renewable energy in its overall portfolio. The company has been steadily expanding its presence in hydropower, solar, and wind projects, aligning with the national vision to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.
In addition to generating clean electricity, the project is anticipated to bring socio-economic benefits to the surrounding areas. It will create local job opportunities, improve infrastructure, and contribute to the regional economy through associated development activities.
According to company officials, the final 80 MW unit of the project is on track for commissioning in the coming months, which will enable the plant to reach its full 240 MW capacity. Once fully operational, the Kutehr hydroelectric project is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing grid stability and providing sustainable power to meet the growing energy needs of the region.
