Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has introduced a standardized framework for warranty management and claims settlement for solar modules deployed under distributed renewable energy programmes across the country. The new guidelines mandate a minimum 10-year product warranty and a 25-year performance warranty for solar photovoltaic modules.

The move is aimed at strengthening consumer protection, improving product reliability, and ensuring long-term performance of solar installations under India’s rapidly growing distributed renewable energy sector. The framework is expected to bring greater transparency and accountability in warranty-related claims and settlement processes for both manufacturers and consumers.

Under the revised norms, manufacturers will be required to provide clear warranty coverage against manufacturing defects, while also guaranteeing long-term power output performance over a 25-year period. The policy is expected to enhance confidence among residential, commercial, and institutional consumers investing in rooftop solar and distributed energy solutions.

The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s broader objective of accelerating solar adoption, strengthening domestic manufacturing standards, and promoting high-quality renewable energy infrastructure across the country.
