Plans to install 15 GW of rooftop solar capacity on government, commercial, and industrial buildings are underway

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's major declaration that India aims to install 30 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the residential sector, the government is looking to install an extra 15 GW in government, commercial, and industrial spaces by 2024–25.
Eight Central PSUs in the power sector, which were earlier asked to participate in the residential rooftop solar initiative, will now also be asked to undertake rooftop solar installations for government buildings.
The CPSUs will collaborate with both the government of India and state government departments in order to saturate buildings with rooftop solar energy. They plan to implement the RESCO model for government buildings as well.
Under the Renewable Energy Service Company solar financing model, the RTS system is owned, installed, run, and maintained by a third-party service provider on behalf of the customer. RESCO models are frequently structured as long-term agreements, typically lasting between 10–25 years.
