PFC and JBIC ink Rs 32 billion loan pact to support bamboo-based bio-ethanol project in Assam

Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has signed a loan agreement worth nearly Rs 32 billion with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) to finance a large-scale bamboo-based bio-ethanol plant in Assam. The project is being developed with the aim of boosting India’s renewable energy and green fuel capacity while strengthening rural employment in the Northeast.

The upcoming facility will use bamboo as its primary feedstock to produce bio-ethanol, supporting India’s broader ethanol blending program and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels. The collaboration also aligns with India’s net-zero targets, while reinforcing Japan’s role in promoting sustainable energy projects in Asia.

The officials noted that this project will not only contribute to cleaner energy but also generate livelihood opportunities for local communities through bamboo cultivation and supply chains. The partnership between PFC and JBIC marks another milestone in expanding green finance and fostering Indo-Japanese cooperation in renewable energy initiatives.
