The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has issued a fresh tender to procure 1 GW of grid-connected solar power from projects ranging in size from 1 MW to 5 MW located anywhere across the state of Punjab.

The tender aims to boost renewable energy capacity in the state by attracting developers to set up solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants that will be connected to PSPCL’s distribution network. Interested developers have until April 1, 2026, to submit their bids for the programme.

Under the terms of the tender, eligible solar projects must be capable of delivering power through connections to PSPCL or Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited substations at 11 kV, ideally located within close proximity to help minimise transmission constraints.

The move comes as part of PSPCL’s broader efforts to diversify its energy mix, strengthen power security, and increase the share of clean energy in its supply portfolio amid rising demand for sustainable and cost-competitive power solutions.

Bidders responding to the tender will be required to meet technical and financial qualification criteria, including performance guarantees, earnest money deposits, and minimum capacity utilisation factors. Once selected, developers will enter into long-term power purchase agreements with PSPCL.

This tender follows other recent renewable power procurement initiatives in the region, including standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) tenders and solar power auctions, underlining Punjab’s growing focus on clean energy development and grid flexibility.
