In a major step towards strengthening India’s domestic wind manufacturing ecosystem and accelerating India’s wind energy ambitions, Shri Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, today launched Wind Turbine Supply Chain Management (WT-MARUT) Portal, India’s first dedicated digital platform for wind supply chain management- at the Global Wind Day Conference.
The conference was organized by Ministry of New & Renewable Energy in Goa in support from industry associations including Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), Wind Independent Power Producers Association (WIPPA), and Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA). Developed under the aegis of Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) supported by Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), WT-MARUT portal will provide visibility of component sourcing, support domestic sourcing requirements under the ALMM framework, enable supplier discovery and qualification, strengthen collaboration across the supply chain, enhance export readiness and ensure secure hosting of industry data within India.
The launch comes at a time when India’s wind sector is witnessing strong momentum. The country added a historic record 6.1 GW of new wind capacity installation in FY 2025-26, marking its highest-ever annual installation – an increase of 46% YoY growth. With over 56.1 GW of installed capacity, India is now the world’s fourth-largest wind energy market yet less than 5% of its estimated 1,164 GW wind potential has been utilized. All industry stakeholders are including CEA, TERI, NiWE recommend that 100 GW of wind is needed by 2030 to ensure that the energy transition is successful, affordable and sustainable.
Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi said, “On Global Wind Day, we celebrate the efforts of wind industry in advancing Atmanirbhar Bharat by building world-class resilient supply chain ecosystem from India. We are confident that the sector will achieve 100 GW of wind installations by 2030 and 155 GW by 2035. As India enters its next phase of growth, unlocking global opportunities will be critical, and initiatives like WT-MARUT Portal will strengthen supply chain visibility, boost domestic manufacturing while enhancing India’s competitiveness in global markets.”
Girish Tanti, Chairman, Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), said, “Global Wind Day is a call to accelerate action and align the entire wind ecosystem behind one shared ambition of unlocking the true potential of wind in India’s energy transition. Wind continues to be one of the most cost-competitive and grid-friendly renewable energy technologies and will play a critical role in achieving India’s vision of 500 GW by 2030 and net zero ambition by 2070. With ~24 GW of annual manufacturing capacity, strong capabilities across four major components nacelles, gearboxes, blades, and towers, and a world class supply chain ecosystem, India is well positioned to scale annual wind installations to 15 GW by 2030 and capture 20% of the global wind supply chain opportunity by 2040.”
