TEXMiN, the Technology Translation Research Park (TTRP) under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, hosted at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, has entered into a strategic alliance with Magnora RE Tech Pvt. Ltd. to explore collaboration in critical minerals, Rare Earth Elements (REEs), and Rare Earth Permanent Magnets (REPMs).
The association brings together TEXMiN’s institutional and technological expertise, Magnora’s role as a strategic investment and industry partner, and the proposed support of ELITech Earth Science Pvt. Ltd. in project management consultancy and technical coordination. Together, the three organisations aim to strengthen indigenous capabilities in a sector that is becoming central to India’s economic and technological security.
The alliance responds to India’s growing demand for REPMs, which are essential to applications such as electric vehicles, renewable energy systems and advanced electronics. By combining research and technology strength with industry investment and project execution support, the partners intend to build a stronger domestic value chain, from critical mineral resources to finished magnet products.
Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and Chairman, Hub Governing Board, TEXMiN, said, “Rare earth permanent magnets are central to India’s economic and technological security, and building indigenous capability in this space needs research, industry and execution to work together. This alliance with Magnora RE Tech, supported by ELITech, is a step in that direction. It reflects our continued commitment to translating research from our institute into solutions that serve India’s strategic and industrial priorities.”
Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Director, TEXMiN, said, “Through this association, we look forward to bringing TEXMiN’s technological and institutional strengths together with the industry and project expertise of our partners. Our aim is to help strengthen the domestic value chain for critical minerals, rare earth elements and rare earth permanent magnets, and to contribute to India’s growing critical minerals ecosystem. We are keen to take this collaboration forward and turn it into meaningful outcomes.”
The collaboration is also aligned with national priorities such as the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM), Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047, reflecting a shared commitment to reducing import dependence and building self-reliance in critical mineral technologies.
Together, TEXMiN, Magnora and ELITech aim to deliver a robust solution to meet the country’s demand for REPMs, while contributing to India’s growing critical minerals ecosystem.
