In a significant step toward advancing renewable energy integration in Karnataka, JSW Energy has signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) for a 100 MW solar power project equipped with a 100 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project will be implemented through JSW’s wholly owned step-down subsidiary, JSW Renew Energy Forty Five Ltd.
The solar-plus-storage project is set to come up in the Kalaburagi district of Karnataka, and will be connected to the 220/400 kV KPTCL substation at Firozabad. The PPA has been signed at a tariff of ₹4.31 per unit, which will remain fixed for the entire 25-year duration of the agreement. The addition of the battery storage component is expected to enhance the reliability and dispatchability of solar power, helping the state manage energy demand more effectively during peak hours.
This development also contributes to JSW Energy’s broader clean energy strategy, especially in the energy storage segment. With this agreement, the company’s total locked-in storage capacity now stands at 29.4 GWh, which includes 3 GWh of battery storage and 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage. JSW Energy is steadily progressing toward its target of 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030, positioning itself as a major player in India’s transition to low-carbon, high-efficiency power systems.
The project also aligns with India’s national goals of expanding renewable energy while improving grid stability through hybrid and storage-based solutions. As solar and storage technologies continue to evolve and become more cost-effective, such integrated projects are expected to become the backbone of the future energy mix.
JSW Energy’s latest agreement with BESCOM reinforces its commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions that cater to both state-level and national power demands, while contributing to India’s larger decarbonization goals.
