In a significant step towards sustainable and digital governance, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal inaugurated a 500 kW rooftop solar power plant at the Delhi Legislative Assembly, while also launching the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA). With this, the Delhi Assembly becomes the first in the country to be fully powered by solar energy and operate paperlessly.
The solar plant is expected to meet the entire electricity requirement of the Assembly building, potentially saving around ₹15 lakh every month. The surplus power generated may also be fed back into the grid through net metering, making the initiative both economically and environmentally impactful.
NeVA, introduced under the “One Nation, One Application” concept, aims to digitize legislative proceedings and reduce paper use across state assemblies. The Delhi Assembly conducted a successful trial run of the platform ahead of its monsoon session, showcasing features like real-time document access, multilingual capabilities, and automated audio-visual tools.
Minister Meghwal emphasized that such initiatives reflect a larger transformation in governance, combining sustainability with technology. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also appreciated the dual achievement, underlining Delhi’s commitment to lead by example in green energy adoption and administrative modernization.
With this development, the Delhi Assembly sets a precedent for other legislatures across the country to adopt clean energy and digital innovation for efficient, transparent, and eco-friendly governance.
