Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced that India will strengthen its weather forecasting systems to improve the reliability of renewable energy integration into the national grid. Speaking at Mint’s 5th Sustainability Summit, Joshi emphasized that accurate forecasting is becoming increasingly vital as the share of solar and wind power rises.
He noted that unpredictable variations in sunlight and wind speed pose challenges for grid operators, who must balance supply and demand in real time. “Improved forecasting will help us integrate more renewable power while maintaining grid stability and ensuring uninterrupted electricity for consumers,” Joshi said.
India has already crossed 200 GW of renewable energy capacity and is working toward its goal of 500 GW from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030. According to experts, advanced prediction models and better digital monitoring tools will help reduce renewable power curtailment and improve planning for distribution companies.
By strengthening forecasting infrastructure, India aims to support its clean energy transition while keeping the national grid reliable, flexible, and future-ready.
