The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has rolled out a pioneering sustainability initiative with the launch of its ‘Solar on Track’ project at the Namo Bharat Depot in Duhai.
This marks the first time in India that solar panels have been installed directly on train tracks within any RRTS or metro system.
The pilot installation features 28 solar modules of 550 Wp each, mounted along a 70-metre stretch of the Pit Wheel Track inside the depot. With a total capacity of 15.4 kWp, the system is expected to generate approximately 17,500 kWh of clean electricity annually, helping reduce around 16 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.
This innovative setup demonstrates NCRTC’s commitment to sustainable transport infrastructure and energy efficiency. If scaled across more stations and depots, similar systems could further cut operational carbon footprints and contribute to India’s renewable energy targets.
NCRTC continues to integrate green practices into the country’s first RRTS network, reinforcing its vision for environmentally responsible high-speed regional mobility.
