In a major push toward accelerating residential clean-energy adoption, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has finalised the allocation of 1.2 GW of rooftop solar capacity under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

The tender, aimed at expanding solar access for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) households, has attracted strong participation from national and regional developers, with more than 20 companies securing project capacities.

Kosol Energie has emerged as the largest awardee with 291.5 MW, marking a significant milestone in its rooftop solar portfolio. It is followed by Rotomag Enertec, which secured 139.5 MW, and Sadbhav Futuretech, awarded 90 MW. Among the major beneficiaries in the appliance and consumer electricals segment is Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, which won 77.4 MW, while Surya Cons received 60.3 MW.

Beyond these top allocations, a number of mid-sized and emerging players also made the winners’ list. Companies such as Brihaspathi Technologies, Sunworks Energy, and VSA Infra Projects secured smaller individual capacities, contributing to the programme’s broader objective of encouraging diverse market participation.

Additional capacity totalling 71.9 MW has been distributed among other qualified bidders.

Under the terms of the scheme, developers will undertake end-to-end turnkey responsibilities, including system design, supply, installation, commissioning, and ensuring five years of operations and maintenance. The projects are targeted exclusively at SC/ST residential households, aligning with the government’s mission to enhance energy equity, reduce household electricity expenditure, and promote sustainable development in underserved communities.

Andhra Pradesh’s successful award of the 1.2 GW tender represents one of the largest state-level rooftop solar allocations under the PM Surya Ghar initiative. Officials stated that the implementation is expected to stimulate local employment, strengthen state-level solar infrastructure, and contribute significantly to India’s decentralised renewable energy goals.

With installation activities scheduled to begin shortly, this round of allocations is expected to boost rooftop solar adoption across thousands of households, further positioning the state as a leader in inclusive clean-energy deployment.
