The Government of Odisha has announced its State Budget for FY 2026–27, earmarking significant allocations for renewable energy and power sector initiatives, including a ₹495 crore provision for the PM Surya Ghar scheme top-up, and a total of INR 4,505 crore for the broader energy sector.

Odisha Finance Minister presented the budget, highlighting a continued focus on clean energy growth, energy access, and infrastructure development. The ₹495 crore allocation as a top-up to the PM Surya Ghar programme underscores the state’s commitment to accelerating rooftop solar adoption under the central government’s flagship scheme.

The state’s overall energy sector allocation of ₹4,505 crore aims to support a range of initiatives, including power generation, distribution reforms, renewable energy projects, energy conservation measures, and grid strengthening activities across Odisha.

Officials noted that the enhanced budget provisions will help bolster the deployment of renewable energy assets, improve electrification infrastructure, and expand access to reliable and affordable power in both urban and rural areas.

The PM Surya Ghar programme, a central government initiative designed to promote rooftop solar installations among residential consumers, has seen strong traction nationwide. The additional ₹495 crore top-up from Odisha’s state budget is expected to accelerate local adoption, encourage private investment, and contribute to the state’s sustainability goals.

In his budget speech, the Finance Minister emphasised that the increased allocations reflect Odisha’s long-term strategy to balance energy security with environmental priorities and to attract investments in green energy infrastructure.

The FY 2026–27 budget also includes provisions to support operational improvements in power utilities, upgrade transmission infrastructure, and promote energy efficiency programmes, aligning with India’s broader clean energy transition objectives.
