The Odisha Cabinet has approved a proposal by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) to set up an integrated solar manufacturing facility with an investment of approximately ₹10,000 crore at the Tata Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Ganjam district.
Envisaged as a first-of-its-kind upstream solar manufacturing project in the state, the facility will cover the solar value chain from ingot and wafer production to solar cell manufacturing. The project will be implemented in two phases and will have an integrated manufacturing ecosystem focused on strengthening domestic solar equipment production.
The proposed unit is expected to position Odisha as a key hub for renewable energy equipment manufacturing while significantly contributing to India’s clean energy transition. Once operational, the facility is projected to generate over 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, including a substantial number of high-skilled jobs, and spur downstream industrial development in the region.
The initiative aligns with India’s broader objective of strengthening the upstream solar value chain, reducing dependence on imported components, and supporting the national goal of achieving large-scale domestic solar manufacturing capacity by 2030.
With this approval, Tata Power further reinforces its commitment to expanding India’s renewable energy manufacturing base while supporting economic growth and industrial development in Odisha.
