The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, will host the Global Wind Day 2026 Conference themed “Wind Energy: From Ambition to Acceleration” on 15 June 2026 at ITC Grand Goa. The day-long conference will bring together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, developers, financiers, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on practical measures to accelerate India’s wind energy journey.
The event will be graced by Shri Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, alongside senior representatives from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), Grid India, leading state governments, and industry bodies including Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), WIPPA, and IWPA.
India has made significant strides in wind energy, adding a record 6.1 GW of new wind capacity in 2025-26 — its best-ever annual addition — and now holds the fourth-largest wind power installed capacity in the world. The Government has set ambitious targets of 100 GW of wind capacity by 2030 and 155 GW by 2035, underscoring wind energy’s central role in achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity and India’s net-zero ambitions by 2070.
Commenting on the significance of Global Wind Day 2026, Shri Pralhad Joshi, Hon’ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, said:
“Wind energy is not just a component of India’s renewable energy strategy — it is at its very heart. India has proven to the world that ambition, backed by the right policies and industry commitment, can deliver results. Our record 6.1 GW addition in 2025-26 is a testimony to what we can achieve when government and industry work as one team. But the next phase calls for more. We must move from ambition to acceleration — accelerating deployment in new geographies, accelerating the build-out of our transmission infrastructure, and accelerating the localisation of our supply chains. Global Wind Day 2026 is a moment for all of us to look inward at what remains to be done and look outward at the enormous export opportunity that awaits India’s wind manufacturing sector. This is not the time for hesitation — it is the time for execution.”
Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, said, “The Global Wind Day Conference has become an important annual platform for aligning government, industry, and regulators around a shared roadmap for India’s wind energy sector. This year’s theme — ‘From Ambition to Acceleration’ — captures precisely where we stand. The policies and frameworks are in place: the ALMM (Wind) mandate for domestic sourcing, the offshore wind leasing framework, the dedicated wind RPO, and a significantly enhanced renewable energy budget. What the sector now needs is relentless execution — faster project completions, deeper grid integration, stronger supply chains, and a greater international presence for Indian wind equipment. The Ministry is fully committed to working hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to make India’s wind energy targets a reality and to make India a globally respected wind energy nation.”
The conference will focus on key priorities shaping the next phase of India’s wind energy journey, including resource adequacy and the role of wind in the power system, transmission and grid readiness, capacity addition challenges, domestic manufacturing competitiveness, export opportunities, and advancements in forecasting and renewable energy firming.
As part of the celebrations, several industry reports and knowledge papers will be unveiled, including “Elevating India’s Wind Turbine Exports for Global Markets,” which explores India’s potential to emerge as a leading global hub for wind turbine manufacturing and exports.
Commenting on the significance of the event, Sh. Girish Tanti, Chairman, IWTMA, said “India’s wind sector is entering a defining phase of growth. The country has made significant progress in expanding installed capacity and developing a robust domestic manufacturing ecosystem. As we move towards ambitious renewable energy targets, industry and government need to work together to address implementation challenges, strengthen supply chains, enhance export competitiveness, and unlock new opportunities for innovation and investment. Global Wind Day provides an important platform to align stakeholders around a shared vision for the sector’s future.”
The conference will feature plenary sessions and panel discussions bringing together government representatives, regulators, developers, manufacturers, and sector experts to deliberate on practical measures that can accelerate deployment, improve project execution, strengthen domestic capabilities, and support India’s long-term clean energy ambitions.
As the sector prepares for its next phase of expansion, Global Wind Day 2026 is expected to serve as a significant milestone in shaping the industry’s roadmap for sustained growth.
