The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for the solarization of approximately 244 NDMC-owned buildings spread across the national capital. The initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening clean and sustainable energy adoption in public infrastructure.

The MoU was signed by Manas Ranjan Mishra, Deputy General Manager & Head of Department (Solar), on behalf of SECI, and Deepak Sachdeva, Chief Engineer (Electrical), representing NDMC. The agreement was exchanged in the presence of Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chairman, NDMC.

Under the collaboration, rooftop solar systems will be deployed across identified NDMC buildings, enabling clean power generation and supporting Delhi’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. The project is expected to enhance energy self-reliance for municipal operations while contributing to long-term cost savings through reduced dependence on conventional power sources.

This initiative aligns with India’s broader energy transition goals by accelerating the adoption of renewable energy within urban public infrastructure. By leveraging solar power at scale, the SECI–NDMC partnership demonstrates leadership in sustainable urban governance and reinforces the government’s commitment to reducing emissions and promoting green energy solutions in the national capital.

The solarization programme is also expected to serve as a model for other urban local bodies across the country, showcasing how renewable energy can be effectively integrated into municipal assets to drive sustainability and climate action.
