Uttar Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone in rooftop solar deployment under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, registering 35,804 rooftop solar installations in February 2026, the highest monthly installation recorded in the state so far.
Officials said the achievement highlights the growing adoption of residential solar systems and the state government’s strong push to promote clean energy. The rapid installation pace reflects increasing awareness among households about the benefits of generating electricity through rooftop solar.
In another major milestone, the state recorded 2,211 rooftop solar installations in a single day on February 28, marking the highest daily installation figure achieved in the country.
The programme has also generated substantial economic and environmental benefits. More than ₹3,500 crore in subsidies have been distributed under the scheme, while the expansion of rooftop solar systems has created over 60,000 direct employment opportunities across the solar ecosystem, including installation, manufacturing, and service sectors.
Launched in 2024 by the Government of India, the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to promote rooftop solar adoption across residential households by offering financial assistance and enabling families to generate their own electricity. Under the scheme, eligible households can receive up to 300 units of free electricity per month through rooftop solar systems installed on their homes.
With strong participation from residents and continuous government support, Uttar Pradesh is emerging as a leading state in rooftop solar adoption, contributing significantly to India’s renewable energy transition and decentralized power generation.
