Hardi Hydro Energy has emerged as the winner in an auction conducted by SJVN to develop a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Panipat Thermal Power Station in Haryana. The company secured the project by quoting a tariff of ₹1.97 lakh per MW per month.

The tender, issued in December 2025, required a minimum bid capacity of 250 MW/500 MWh. The project is to be located near the 220 kV substation of the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam network at the 1,360 MW Panipat Thermal Power Station site.

The project will be eligible for viability gap funding of up to ₹18 lakh per MWh and must be completed within 18 months. Developers are also required to provide 12 years of comprehensive operation and maintenance.

Land identification and allocation will be handled by Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, with land provided on a lease or right-to-use basis, facilitated by SJVN.

Under the scope of work, Hardi Hydro Energy will be responsible for setting up the BESS, managing charging and discharging operations based on demand, developing the transmission network up to the interconnection point, and securing all necessary approvals and land.

The system will draw power from the utility network for charging and inject energy back as per dispatch instructions from the state load dispatch centre. The BESS must be charged using renewable energy, support two operational cycles per day, and maintain a minimum monthly availability of 95 per cent.
