The North Eastern Railway (NER) has invited e-tenders for the development of a 568 kWp solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the Gorakhpur region, marking another significant step toward sustainable railway infrastructure.
Issued by the Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer (DYCEE/Colony) on behalf of the President of India, the project aims to integrate renewable energy solutions into railway operations. The tender follows a single-packet bidding system under the “Normal Tender” category and has been structured as a general works expenditure project.
The scope of work has been divided into two key components. The first involves the design, supply, and installation of an on-grid solar PV system without battery backup, utilising advanced N-Type TOPCon bifacial modules along with grid-connected inverters featuring data logging capabilities for efficient performance monitoring.
The second component focuses on the installation of a hybrid solar system with battery backup, incorporating 2V VRLA batteries and three-phase hybrid Power Conditioning Units (PCUs). The project also includes complete infrastructure setup, such as mounting structures, electrical distribution systems, and fire-resistant cabling, all in compliance with the standards set by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
The total estimated cost of the project stands at ₹4.34 crore. Interested bidders are required to submit an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of ₹3.67 lakh, while the selected contractor will need to provide a 5% Performance Guarantee along with a 5% Security Deposit as per tender norms.
To ensure quality execution, bidders must have prior experience in completing at least a 10 kWp solar project within the last seven years, along with meeting defined financial and licensing criteria, including a valid “A” class electrical contractor license.
As per the schedule, the tender was released on March 20, 2026, with bidding commencing on March 30, 2026. The last date for submission is April 13, 2026.
This initiative reflects the growing momentum of renewable energy adoption across public infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in sectors like railways that are increasingly focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency.
In this context, the upcoming PowerPax India Renewable Energy Expo 2026, scheduled to be held on May 02–03, 2026, in Varanasi, is expected to play a vital role in accelerating such developments. The expo will bring together key stakeholders, including policymakers, EPC companies, technology providers, and investors, offering a platform to explore opportunities in solar deployment across sectors like railways and public infrastructure. Registration is free.
With increasing focus on clean energy integration, initiatives like these, supported by industry platforms such as PowerPax, are set to drive Uttar Pradesh’s transition toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.
