AmpereHour Energy has announced the successful commissioning of a 180 MW / 360 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project for IndiGrid at Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL)’s substation in Gujarat.

The project is regarded as one of the largest standalone energy storage installations in Asia and India’s first large-scale standalone BESS project developed under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework.

The milestone marks a significant step forward in India’s energy storage and clean energy transition journey. The project was conceptualized nearly two years ago with a focus on enabling large-scale renewable integration and improving grid reliability through advanced battery storage infrastructure.

AmpereHour Energy highlighted that the commissioning reflects the growing importance of standalone BESS projects in supporting India’s rapidly evolving power sector. The company also acknowledged the support and collaboration of IndiGrid and GUVNL in successfully delivering the project.

The 180 MW / 360 MWh facility is expected to strengthen grid stability, enhance renewable energy integration, and contribute towards building a more resilient and flexible electricity network in the country. The development further underlines India’s increasing focus on utility-scale energy storage solutions as a critical component of the future energy ecosystem.
