Assam is set for a major boost in clean energy and industrial growth as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Assam Bioethanol Plant and laid the foundation stone for a polypropylene plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Golaghat today. These projects aim to promote renewable energy, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and create new opportunities for farmers and youth.
Addressing the gathering, the PM highlighted Assam’s growing role in India’s energy security, noting that petroleum products and new ethanol production from bamboo will strengthen the state’s contribution to national development. The polypropylene plant will support manufacturing, textiles, and other industrial sectors, furthering the ‘Make in Assam’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives.
PM Modi also announced projects worth approximately ₹18,000 crore for Assam, including connectivity, health, and industrial initiatives, emphasizing the state’s transformation into a hub for energy, semiconductors, and tourism. He underscored welfare measures for tea garden workers, tribal communities, and local farmers, along with infrastructure projects such as permanent housing and tap water supply.
Highlighting India’s growing green energy capacity, PM Modi said the country is progressing toward self-reliance in energy while preserving Assam’s cultural heritage, including initiatives like the Maa Kamakhya Corridor and development of historic sites.
“These initiatives mark a significant milestone for a developed Assam and a developed India,” he said, calling Assam a model for balanced growth, industrial development, and heritage preservation.
