NLC India Limited (NLCIL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) to collaborate on the development of thermal and renewable energy projects. The agreement was formalised on 14 February 2026 at Mahabalipuram, marking a strategic partnership between two Navratna central public sector enterprises.

The MoU establishes a structured framework for cooperation on a proposed 1,200 MW thermal captive power project along with renewable energy initiatives. The collaboration aims to meet NALCO’s captive and long-term power requirements in a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable manner.

The agreement also includes provisions to explore long-term power tie-ups, such as captive and group captive arrangements, as well as long-term coal supply agreements to ensure energy and fuel security for the identified projects. In addition, the two companies will examine opportunities for joint project development, including the potential formation of a joint venture entity.

Senior officials from both organisations were present at the signing ceremony, including NLCIL Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli and NALCO Director (Projects & Technical) Jagdish Arora, along with other senior leadership from both companies.

The partnership is intended to strengthen inter-CPSE collaboration, optimise national resources, enhance energy security, and support India’s industrial growth and sustainability objectives. It also aligns with NLCIL’s capacity-expansion strategy across thermal and renewable energy segments.
